Yep, I did it. My daughter and I have been shooting video with our GoPro for the last few days, playing with video editors, and decided to publish snippets of our weekly activities.
I try to embrace the fact that I am a working mom of two, and juggle my time to write, connect with family and friends, pursue swimming, train for triathlons, and in getting fit both mentally and physically. But I’ve been pretty negative the last few months since my mother’s passing and later a shoulder injury. The grieving process has been unpredictable, leaving me sometimes unsure how to feel. Rather than a series of stages, there have been many ups and downs, highs and lows. I knew I needed to allow myself time to heal, but I just didn’t know how. The injury forced me thankfully to slow down and reevaluate my goals. But, more importantly, I also had to face a truth that I too needed to reevaluate my perspective, particularly in dealing with my inner critic. Because she can be a real mean bitch sometimes.
Rather than defining success as how many tasks got completed this week or how miles I’ve completed, I wanted to take time to embrace the seconds/minutes/hours, and find moments of progress every day. And to share my journey towards a living a happier and healthier life, one rep and stroke at a time.
